also check if your firewall (if you have any) allows punkbuster to update. I did have a very similiar problem just a few days ago (maybe during weekend?) - I was getting punbuster handshake error cause I had no rules set up for punkbuster exacutables (pnkbstra.exe tcp and udp and pnkbstrb.exe udp) so all its traffic was dropped.

Since some weeks Punkbuster installed a new Update with this .exe. You can see it in the Windowstaskmanager. Do you have a Anti-Virusprogramm wich blocks this Thread ? Or try a manually Punkbusterupdate with the Pbsetup.exe wich you can download here: http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe

Download and start the Pbsetup, search for PB-Games and Update your Punkbuster. If it still dont work you probably have to reinstall BF2.

Could this PB update make my bf2 crash to desktop?
Because those last days I was having this problem very often :stars:

Everyday I use to crash at least once :stressed:

And sometimes when I try to connect to our server the following message is in my screen:
'You have been lost your connection to the server' (or something like that)

Everybody should download this Pbsetup.exe / Sometimes Punkbuster can cause a crash to desktop. Just download this exe in a folder named "Punkbuster" (for example....) and click on the exe. Follow the instructions.

I think many others have the same problem, i read in other forums about the same problem. Even i got this :windows:

This new pnkbstra.exe is a result of Windows Vista, it is a modification for Punkbuster to work properly with Win Vista. Even on Windows XP :secret:

@ hintakaari maybe you have a extra Firewall running wich blocks the pnkbstra.exe and the pnkbstrb.exe
